IMG_2674.JPG

The city of Tucumcari is currently renovating the Tucumcari  Train Depot.  The depot was built in 1926 and is being restored to its original Mission/Spanish Colonial Revival style.

To date, the city of Tucumcari has completed asbestos removal, given the depot's exterior a fresh coat of paint and replaced all glass. The next portion of this redevelopment will consist of updating the roof and all of its components.

Follow further development on the Train Depot here as it progresses.

Much More to Come!

Tucumcari Downtown Master Plan To Guide Improvements

Tucumcari Main Street is developing a master plan for Tucumcari's downtown area in cooperation with its partners--the City of Tucumcari, the Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corporation and the Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce.

The effort is financed by  a $70,000 grant received in 2008 from the New Mexico Economic Development Department's MainStreet Division.  Consensus Planning, an Albuquerque consulting firm, has been engaged to help guide the planning process.

Upon completion and approval of this Master Plan, Tucumcari Main Street and the city will have a road map to guide further improvement activities.  The Master Plan will allow Main Street and the City seek additional funding to finance construction activities that will bring our vision to life.

Tucumcari Main Street thanks its partners and New Mexico Main Street for their contributions!

Lets Paint The Town!

Following a model from a Kentucky Main Street project , Tucumcari Main Street is planning a "Let's Paint The Town" event.

In this event, Tucumcari Main Street, along with 30 or so local volunteers,  will help local building owners paint and repair their building exteriors.

The only requirements are that the building owners must buy all of the paint and choose colors that fall within a range selected by the Tucumcari Main Street Design Committee.  If you are a Tucumcari business owner and you would like to participate in this project please contact Mark Lake, executive director of Tucumcari Main Street,  (575) 461-3701.

Help Us Make History!

Tucumcari Main Street wants to add some history to this website.  We're looking for historic photos of the downtown area, including shots of Main Street, the Train Depot and the Princess Theater, among other downtown locations.

If you have some pictures of the downtown area from yesteryear that you'd like to share on our website, please contact Mark Lake, Tucumcari Main Street's executive director, at (575) 461-3701.

$1.4-Million Capital Outlay Grant Finances Train Depot Improvement Project

The New Mexico Legislature approved a capital outlay grant of $1.4 million for infrastructure improvements in downtown Tucumcari during the 2009 legislative session.  The funds are being used to renovate the Tucumcari Train Depot.

To administer the grant, a local task force was formed with equal representation from the City of Tucumcari, Tucumcari Main Street, the Tucumcari Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corporation.

The task force decided to use the funds to renovate the train depot  after receiving community-wide feedback on several options for infrastructure improvement through the master plan process.

The contract with the state calls for the $1.4 million to be spent by June 2011.
